When my second gen Shuffle is plugged into the charging base, there are three (3) orange light flashes, then nothing. I left it to charge for a few hours, and no light comes on. It played last night, then flashed red and went dead.

when you say "charging base" do you mean the usb plug you plug into a wall? or a little dock thing on amazon? if u switch out the usb wall plug, if lights still don't come on, it should mean that it is charged. if it works, double click the voice over button and listen to it when it says the battery life left.
When charging, three orange flashes and no lights when plugged into outlet.
