Q: Help - Font Book and font Library doesn't work

I've just updated to a new iMac on Yosemite, and Font Book doesn't work. Neither does putting fonts into the "Library"

There is a range of fonts that ARE working that are already in either place, but some (that worked up until two days ago in my old Mac running OS 10.6.8) just won't work.

If I select the fonts in Font Book, Font Book doesn't load them. If I put them in the Library, they don't appear for use in any application.

As a designer, updating fonts is essential, and if this can't be fixed I'm in serious trouble! So any advice welcome!

I would appreciate any comments you might wish to make on version 5 of FE Pro. I still use Font Explorer 4 on my main system drive; have Fusion on others.

    Hi kahjot,

I downloaded version 5, but haven't had time to even launch it yet. Very busy with client work at the moment. But I will for sure have a look at it for the next revision of my article so I can include a review on FEX Pro 5 along with updating the article for El Capitan.

Hi Kurt, hope you are well. Apologies for replying to an old thread, but after much searching, I can't help feel you are definitely the person who can help - I'm busy setting up a new iMac and I'm worried about font issues; I've used FontExplorer Pro in the past; should I again, or is FontBook good enough to use? I'm also going to join the Creative Cloud which has TypeKit, but i have years of work which uses fonts older fonts. I'd appreciate any guidance. Thank you. Regards Lerryn

I would, without hesitation, use FontExplorer X Pro over Font Book any day of the week. Font Book is a okay for simple, light use of font management. It falls down quickly as you add a goodly number of fonts (like more than a few hundred). It's greatest weakness continues to be how easily its database gets damaged by even only nominally damaged fonts that other font managers won't even shrug a shoulder at.

Thanks. Your font guide is a great resource. Just got FEX 5 myself, but thanks to typical end-of-summer work craziness have not had time to do anything with it.
