Q: Starkey Halo i110 Hearing Aids

I have been wearing the Starkey Halo i110s for about eight months now. I visiting my audiologist yesterday for my annual audiology exam and to have my Halos reprogrammed. My hearing has worsened slightly, prompting the appointment and the reprogramming. I learned a couple of things about the Halos that my audiologist did not seem to know --

  1. All of the secondary (that is, all not labeled "Normal") program presets do not get revised based on the new Normal programming baseline. They remain at their previous levels. This is also true for any additional SoundSpace presets created in TruLink. I am going back in a couple of weeks (I think I can live with things as they are until then) for a follow-up/recheck.
  2. The "default" volume level as seen in the "Hearing Aids" adjustment screen within iOS (available with the triple-tap on the Home button) uses a different scale from that available to the audiologist. That leads to a bit of difficulty in setting a new "default" listening level when the Halos are reprogrammed. That volume level indicator may also not be quite as accurate as it purports to be. For example, my default was set a "41" until yesterday when the audiologist boosted it to "56." These numbers are those that I can see on my phone. However, this morning, when I powered up the Halos, the display has returned to "41," even though the volume coming through the Halos is the same as it was when I turned them off last night.

My audiologist told me that I am her only patient with the Halos, so we really are learning some of this together.

I don't know if any of this is old news, but I thought the information could be of use to the community.

I discovered that performing a reset on the TruLink app "resynched" the presets with the new default program.

You are so Starkey Halo expert I appeal to you to teach me how to use the "car feature" I have been told will reduce noise and make conversation more audible.

Oddly my aids are set at 41 too! I'm not due for a checkup for several months but I'm making a note to ask about that peculiar situation. I had a slight boost in my right aid last month but Trulink continued to show 41 for both ears.

gilda92 - To use the "Car" feature with you Starkey hearing aids, first launch the TruLink app. Then tap on the gear icon at the top of the screen, then the Settings icon. You will see the Automatic Memories settings at the top of the next screen. The first three options are related to auto-streaming and they are labeled "Auto-Streaming" (it's an on/off switch), "Other," and "Phone." The next section contains the Car settings. What do you see there?

    I see "Car" and "off"!

And on the next screen: Off (ticked) and Normal, Music, Normal 2, Streaming

You don't seem to have a "Car" preset. That is typically done by your audiologist. Mine programmed my "Car" preset so that sounds in the lower register are muted on that preset. I recommend that you visit your audiologist to make sure that preset is programmed correctly for you.

To activate that feature, tap one of the presets and TruLink will adjust your hearing aids to that preset when you are moving more than 10 mph.

Thanks for the info about "car". I will ask my audi to set it for me. She and I are in this position  vis-a-vis Halo experience: she has little, I have none. I switched from Widex to Starkey two months ago to take advantage of the iPhone connection. As well, this iPhone 6 is my first; I was previously a devoted Blackberry fan.

My audi and I went through that phase, too. We helped each other and the local Starkey rep (also an audiologist) has been willing to participate in our sessions.

Good luck with the Starkeys and the iPhone. I resisted an iPhone for quite a while (my first was a 4S) and now I don't know what I would do without it.

    Hi all,

Just got my Halo i110s today, and so I'm breaking them in - or they're breaking me in!

I must say, to follow the Car thread and see you refer to your specialist as an "audi" is a little confusing!

Also, the use by the Trulink app of "auto-streaming" as a term is also confusing, as I tend not to think of auto as "automobile" but "automatic". "In-Car Streaming" would have been my pick for nomenclature. Sorry for the pedantry.

In any case, something of a steep learning curve ahead of me, and so I'm glad to see there are other Apple users here to assist.

I'm no newbie to Apple (Pres of a MUG in Australia) so hopefully will be a quick adopter and explorer of what the Halos have to offer. I opted for the Onyx colour, btw. Any suggestions to push me up the learning curve most welcome!

Re: "audi" for audiologist - yeah, I know. I actually picked that short form up around here.

Re: "auto-streaming" - it does mean "automatic." It's not just for the Car setting, but for the telephone and "other" (other streaming, such as from the Music app) settings as well.
