My phone will not back up to Icloud, please HELP?!

As it says in the title really. For some reason when I plug my phone into my computer it will not connect with ICloud, I have lots of pics on my phone which I wish to transfer over so I can keep but it will not do it. My phone is running out of storage and because of this is not functioning properly.

It does seem to have just put some of my pics into dropbox without me asking it to do this but I do not want them in there.

I am really dumb when it comes to things like this so if anyone has any suggestions and a step by step guide I would be most appreciative.

Go to Settings > iCloud > Photos and check 'Optimize iPhone Storage'.

Your pictures will be uploaded to iCloud, and you will gain some free space.

Perhaps you're exceeding the capacity of your iCloud storage...

If you don't have enough space in iCloud and you don't want to buy more, then you can back up to iTunes on your computer instead.

You really need to extract the photos from the phone on a regular basis to your computer just as you would with any other digital camera.

IF you go to iCloud in settings near the bottom there is a back up section. Go to that and turn it on. If you want from there you can manually backup.
