Continuing problems with Word for Mac

Hello all. I wasn't sure if this was the right place to post this problem.

I have been on the Firefox forum for a few weeks trying to deal with Firefox continuously crashing. The people there found that it was Word for Mac that was causing the problem and recommended that I uninstall and reinstall- which I did. Firefox crashed again as did Word. My laptop also spontaneously shuts down. I bought new Ram hoping to solve that but it didn't. It shuts down, sometimes, when it's doing nothing but sitting there.

I have no idea what to do at this stage. The Firefox team suggested removing all Window products. Should I remove Silverlight? This I believe is required to watch Netflix.

Any suggestions. Having Word crash in the middle of a doc is a disaster. Auto recover recovered nothing and I had to start over.

I need Office due to my work with clients who are PC-based. AS you know Pages doesn't translate well.

You don't say what version of Office (2008, 2011) you have, but ** if you have the install disc and your product number, one thing you can do is reinstall Office.

Then, wind your way back up the current version, using the Updater within Office.

For 2011 the current version is 14.4.7

I had frequent crashes with Office - and only by reinstalling it was I able to avoid the crashes.

After you reinstall and get to current version, you could then go into Safe Mode, seeing what types of add on you have in your start up, removing them - restarting to see if it resolves your issue, then putting them back one at a time until Kerplooie Crash Bang

** First make a good backup of your Mac contents

What version Office do you have?

And have you tried Safe Mode yet?

Try the Safe Boot first -

OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? - Apple Support

Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues - Apple Support

There are many expert users here who could help you.

Regarding the Firefox, your laptop shutting down, adding ram, and issues still continuing - there may be much more going on here than just a Word . Office issue.

RUnning Mavericks (btw- so many problems since that was installed). Macbook Pro. 2010 RAM- 8GB (is this called Memory in System Info?)

Okay re: running in Safe Mode. Not sure what you mean it won't do anything. Reason I asked is that Word doesn't crash all the time , nor does the computer shut down all the time. I guess I don't understand what running in Safe Mode does
