ichat and text messages on phone
Can messages to an iphone be on the phone and the mac via ichat appear simultaneously?

Ok.. one issue I am having is that if I look at a message on my macbook with ichat that message is not on my phone? I thought I was losing messages because of this
I'm sorry, I may have misread. iMessage and SMS can appear on both devices at once. But there is no iChat on iOS devices and there is no longer any such application as iChat on Maverick. I don't have access to an older version of the Mac OS to even look at iChat and I don't remember much about it. So, if you're still using a version of the Mac OS with iChat, you may want to post in the forum for that version. However, iChat messages won't show up on the phone at all.
