hard to highlight large sections with trackpad

Hi,

I am working on a late 2013 macbook pro, which I love, and it is my baby (my first mac in 12 years!)

I absolutely love the magic trackpad and have figured it out except for one VERY annoying issue: I have the hardest time selecting large sections of text with the three-finger drag. I don't have the click-and-drag enabled. I just put my three fingers down and highlight-->drag.

When I get to the bottom of a screen,

1) I am usually at the bottom of my trackpad already (even if I've started at the top), and

2) I can't get the highlight to scroll down to the end of the text I need, even when I hit the bottom of the window. If I do get the page to scroll down, it's painfully slow and sometimes just stops. Then I have to start over.

Example -- I want to highlight a large area of a scientific article to copy and send to a colleague. I three-finger drag. I get to the bottom of the window. It won't scroll down any further. I try dragging my fingers back up, and down again, to no avail. I curse at the trackpad. I start over.

Does anybody have any tips or tricks for being this slimy little bugger?

Thank you very much!
