Application will not open....Works for Other Users, but me!

I am having a conflict somewhere on my computer. I have been going back and forth with the developers of the application and we cant figure out what the problem is. Perhaps permissions of some sort might be causing the problem. I have had this issue for the past 3 years on this application. During that 3 year span, I have gotten by using windows version of the app w/ parallels. That is not a solution anymore and I have to some how get this app to start working on my mac! This app gets updated regularly and no other users seem to have the problem I am having on my 2009 macbook pro that is on 10.10.1.

Latest error message is as follows:

"You can’t open the application “BxxxxrxxxR” because it is not supported on this type of Mac." and the app itself has the "no sign".

Note: I understand that this message usually comes up on say older versions of pc apps like office and so forth, however that is not the circumstance of this app that gets updated regularly.

After full uninstalls and reinstalls sometimes I may be able to install and launch the app successfully. However, after a short duration the application will just crash and then it will attempt to launch and crash within seconds.

This application also uses Java and flash player functions and I have even done clean uninstalls and reinstalls on those as well. Nothing seems to work and I would appreciate help on this.

If you need to know the name of the app, I can provide I suppose. However, I assure you that if you got it and put it on your mac, you would not be having this issue.....

You have no idea what you did to solve the probleM? I tried chatting, and they said they could not help me with 3rd party software. Do you have the case ID? Was your problem with bovada? Perhaps you have a case id from your support? If you dont have it, I am sure apple would be able to give it to you if you asked......iif i had a case id they migth be able to help me. Unfortunately, I would have to pay 30.00 cuz my apple care is over. Therefore, are you sure you and I had the same problem? what was your problem exactly that you know of.

After trying numberous things, I have determined chances are adobe flash plugin is to blame. The bovada app works when I delete flash player on the mac. The app crashes when I try to look at a hand history while flash is installed on my machine. I have had problems with this application for 2 or so years and have been playing the windows version to get by with. Unfortunately, i cant resort to the windows option anymore and that is why I am trying to get bovada on my mac to work and literally noone can help me so all help or advice is appreciated.

Brett,

I cannot be sure we have the same issue, but I did save correspondence both with Apple and Bovada, and will provide the trail below:

By the way I am running OS10.10, and experienced this issue after installing 10.10.

My Inquiry to Bovada:

I have been playing poker on Bovada and recently i encountered an issue where my iMac couldn’t open the most recent update to your software. So I trashed the poker program and downloaded it fresh. I now get the following message when I try to open it: The application “BovadaPoker.app” can’t be opened.

I tried trashing it and re-downloading. Same result.

Help, please

Bovada's reply:

Thanks for contacting Bovada Poker Customer Service.

This is to update you about the error message “You can’t open the application “Bovada Poker” because it is not supported on this type of Mac". After a comprehensive investigation, we can confirm that this is a known issue to Macintosh users not being able to install third party software such as ours due to file execution rights. You may take a look at the discussions in Apple page under this link:

There's one resolution we can provide you in order to help resolve this issue. This is to execute a command via Terminal using this command:

"sudo chmod 755 / {installed path}/BovadaPoker.app/Contents/BovadaPoker"

Please contact Apple Support to help you execute/enter this command in Terminal under the Utilities. We hope that this resolves your issue.

We’re available to help 24/7 if you need anything else.

Thanks,

I then had 2 chat sessions, interrupted by an internet modem glitch. I copied the chat personnel on the correspondence below. The first session focussed on opening all permissions to me and removing restrictions on 3rd party software. I think that might have been necessary, but it wasn't enough to solve the problem. I don't have a transcript of that, but here is the second chat where I was given Terminal commands which worked:

Duration: 11 minutes 13 seconds

Lance:
Thanks for contacting AppleCare chat support. How can I help you?

ROBERT:
I was disconnected by the internet connection while being helped by another tech specialst

ROBERT:
Now chatting with Roland, case # 739581887

Lance:
Thanks. Let me have a look. And…you’re on with Roland now or no?

ROBERT:
no, lost the connection

Lance:
Okay, one sec.

Lance:
Okay, copy this for me

Lance:
cd /Applications/BovadaPoker.app/Contents/ sudo chmod g+rx BovadaPoker

ROBERT:
copied

Lance:
Now, press command and space. That opens a search. Type in terminal, then press enter. A window should open, then paste exactly what you copied into that window. Then press enter. Close the window, then try and open the app again.

ROBERT:
it prompts a password after I ran the text

Lance:
Thats your login password. Type it in and press enter. It may look like its not typing, but it is.

ROBERT:
just put in my admin pw?

Lance:
Yes

ROBERT:
software is opening!

Lance:
Nice.

Lance:
Basically, other users have had this issue. Something thinking you don’t have permission to open it, but that command fixed it.

ROBERT:
thank you

Lance:
You’re welcome. Anything else I can do for you?

ROBERT:
what is the command for taking a screen shot? I'd like to save this chat

Lance:
Shift + command + 3, but I can email a transcript to you.

ROBERT:
great, I will look for the email

Lance:
Okay, gotcha. It was a pleasure chatting with you! When you are ready, you may close the window to end the chat. Have a brilliant day!
