Q: My iPhone 4 won't connect to my home WiFi, but all my other devices are connecting to it just fine. Please help!

Hey everyone, I have been having this problem for about a day or two now. I have an iPhone 4, and have iOS 7.1.2. Basically, my iPhone will connect to my home WiFi sometimes, but it randomly loses connection and won't connect for hours upon hours. I have tried turning it on and off multiple times as well as resetting the network settings. I know that it is not my network's problem because a member of my family has an iPhone 5S, and it works fine with the WiFi, along with all of my other devices. This issue is getting very annoying as I don't like to use my cellular data at home since it is limited. Please help me!!

Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tends to indicate a problem with your network.

What happens when it fail to connect?

-----  Does the iOS device see the network?

    ----- Any error messages?

    Do other devices now connect?

Did the iOS device connect before?

Try the following to rule out a software problem:

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

    - Power off and then back on your router

.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections

    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network

    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points

    - Restore from backup. See:

    iOS: How to back up

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

It shows other networks except for mine. However, I know that it is not my network's problem because all of my other devices connect to my WiFi perfectly fine. Also, I have done research and found out that if you freeze it, it'll find the Wifi, I tried and it worked. I tried and it worked! However, it is not working now. I have tried resetting it multiple times but it is not working. I am honestly so confused because I desperately need WiFi.

I do not understand what yo mean by:

It shows other networks except for mine. However, I know that it is not my network's problem because all of my other devices connect to my WiFi perfectly fine. Also, I have done research and found out that if you freeze it, it'll find the Wifi, I tried and it worked. I tried and it worked!

Are you saying sometimes it shows networks but not your network?

The freezing indicates this problem which seems to be due to a poor internal connection

iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim

One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem.

    Also heating sometimes works. See:

Why can't I select my wifi settings?

A trick that works frequently with iPhones:

Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON

Power down and wait 5-10 minutes

    Power up

Settings > AirPlane Mode OFF, Do Not Disturb OFF

If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.

I too had same problem: one Apple device not connecting while other ones did. So I looked at the wifi properties of a device that worked and compared to the one that did not work. Somehow the DNS number on the inoperable device had an extra digit at beginning of the number (very easy to compare and see the difference). I deleted the extra digit and the device works perfectly.

    Thanks travellingsurveyor!

I spent so much time with that problem and even the Apple Store couldn't help me with that problem.

I just added my router DNS in the WiFi settings on the iPhone and it finally joined my WiFi network!

    Cedric.

Update: Oops, the WifI was kept for a minute a disappeared again... Need to find a new solution.

I have a really old iPod touch, maybe 2nd gen, and about 2 weeks ago I just lost connectivity to my home wifi. I fixed it for about a day by entering an incorrect password and leaving it like that for about a day. I tried it again recently, but I couldn't get it to reconnect.

In my house, there is one computer and my dad's HDC phone that connect to this wifi, and they work just fine. Please help! Apple Support is being rather useless, the message told me that I needed to open an email on the affected device. To solve the problem of not being able to receive email on the affected device. Customer Service should not provide me with Catch-22s...

Can anyone tell me how I might fix this?

I had a similar problem.  After years of working fine, this morning the iPhone 4 would not connect to my home wifi, all other devices would.  Actually, sometimes it connected for a second or two, then lost it and hooked into BTWiFi, which I don't want and have told it to forget.

The solution was very easy. Settings > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Be careful to choose this one, then no user data is lost.

The phone reboots, then go to Settings>Wifi choose the home network and put the password in.
