Q: Macbook pro with no operating system and broken CD/DVD drive

I have an older Macbook pro with a broken CD drive. That was fine until somehow when trying to format the computer, the operating system files were also deleted. I heard there is a way for me to hook up this macbook to my desktop and use the desktop to install the operating system. Is this possible?
