Q: Why does my iPhone 6 Plus not display texts in my car?

My car has the ability to either read or display my text messages on the screen in my Honda CR-V.  Why doesn't my iPhone do this?  My car says that my phone is not compatible.  My old Samsung Galaxy II did this.  Does anyone know why this is?  Is there something I am missing, or not have set up right?

It just seems weird that my old (really old) Samsung worked fine, but something like the iPhone, which should be way more advanced, doesn't.

Any thoughts appreciated

Thanks

You're not doing anything wrong. Not all phones are compatible. My Ram also has that capability but only with certain phones. Unfortunately the iPhone isn't one of them.

Thanks pogster.  If anyone from Apple sees these, is there any way some kind of update would allow this?  It's a safety issue.  It is much safer for me to listen to the texts than it is to be looking at my phone.

    Thanks

Apple does not participate in the forum. They get their feedback HERE, and click on the appropriate subject. The iPhone supports MAP, but there must be something different about the way the Honda handles it.

You can see what Bluetooth profiles the iPhone supports here. iOS: Supported Bluetooth profiles - Apple Support

Yes that's true but you shouldn't be looking at your phone anyway while driving so its a pointless comparison.

Do you know if it's just the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus?

I just upgraded from an iPhone 5 which did support this feature.

I never had a 5 but I know my 4 did not. I think I tried with my 5s but I'll test again along with my 6 and let you know later on today.

I'll should also mention something about your earlier comment about Apple reading this. There's a lot of volume on this website so the chance of Apple reading your comment might not be so great. As mentioned I'd encourage you to leave product feedback.

    Hey Fulvio

I was having the same problem and that's why I came to the community yesterday. But, I also opted to call Apple Support as the phone was recently purchased. It took over an hour, and I had to wait on hold for senior support. And in the end the support wasn't even able to help out but I was mucking about while on my phone trying to figure it out.

Then I realized I never went and actually checked under the Bluetooth settings to see if there was more options.  And, there was.

Tap the i icon next to your Bluetooth connected vehicle... if supported, you should see an option for "Show Notifications".  By default, this option was disabled on my iPhone 6 Plus. I tapped it to enable it, and then I was able to have the Honda CR-V read the text messages and display them on screen if I was in "Park".

    Hope this helps!

    Nathan:

Thanks for your insight.  I did find this setting when I was looking through all of the different settings on my iPhone.  It does seem to be working now.

    Thanks again!

I don't think it would be an Apple update that is required. It is Honda that must update their system.

This worked for me! I had to forget my phone on my car and forgrt my car on my phone. Reset to factory settings. Reconnect to Bluetooth. And then turn on notifications in my phone settings. I have an iPhone 6 Plus running ios 9.1.

    Thank you!
