Can't Boot past "en2: promiscuous mode enable succeeded"

I have this exact problem.

The computer is also suffering from video problems as well. I'll boot to the recovery mode (local or internet) and as it's doing a disk check vertical blue lines will cover the screen and stay until I power off the computer.

I'm taking the computer into the apple store today to see if this model of macbook is suffering from a video defect:

Kelsor's comment is the answer to this issue. It is a video defect and the recall covered my early 2011 MBP.

Maybe you have already fixed this? anyway, an associate of mine at work has just had the same problem and as he has never had a mac before (MacBook Pro 15) he came to me, not that I have a Mac either but I am one of the Unix/Linux specialists so he thought I could fix it! And I did!

after starting in single user mode and doing the usual checks, all returning status ok, I started in the verbose mode and saw exactly what you had, thinking that en2 is a network adapter in the system ( en/eth in Unix/Linux) I thought the problem could be network related so I started up with the Startup Manager and could choose the correct available wireless network, entered the password and the proceeded to boot the system.. it worked fine.

Try it and see, it may help you too.

I have the same issue on my Macbook Pro (non-Retina) from mid 2012 (Yosemite 10.10.3). Daily the first boot fails and freezes at the step (Verbose mode):

en1: promiscuous mode enable succeeded

After forced shutdown it boots normally again (sometimes 2x forced shutdown is required). In addition, when the MBP is in standby mode (closing lid), it crashes after +/- 1 hour.

I have the same problem and have tried all the solutions above with no success. According to the German Apple Support Team the link above does not include this error, which makes me sad, as this post gave me some hope...

Could you please let me know about your experiences? What is the origin of this problem and what is the solution?

Hey -- I see the same issue when I boot (I can't get into safe mode or recovery mode, and had a similar progress bar).

What ended up being your fix? My computer shouldn't be part of the video issue as it's a 2014 MBP, not a 2012 / 2013. But maybe that issue manifests itself over different generations...

I have this problem again on a late 2011 17" model. Logic board replaced May 2015 worked flawlessly until a few weeks ago when it would rebooted after switching to the GPU a few times. Had vertical lines yesterday. Sadly I feel the end is near for my beloved workhorse...

It really all depends on how far gone your machine is. When my 17" failed last year I had the vertical lines on screen and it eventually would not boot. Had the logic board replaced under the repair extension program.

This time around it was still in the stages of freezing during boot and I found this link a few weeks back:

I tried this solution with my machine and it has been running perfectly with integrated graphics! No more heavy duty gfx work in Final Cut Pro or Lightroom but it serves me fine now as an office machine.

When my laptop failed again a few weeks back I really did think it was curtains. However I persisted with the suggested method of booting with integrated graphics by getting it very hot, although I did not go as far as putting it in a bag!

Does the Mac mini heat up when it hangs during boot with the fans going crazy? I think this is the key getting it hot enough to boot without the GPU. However if the PCI SDXC has also stopped working you have wider hardware issues.

I also have a Mid 2010 15" MacBook Pro which suffers from the Nvidia GPU defect & non functional bluetooth, though this unit is no longer in use.

Thanks. This helped. Only option is to get your laptop to Apple store and get replaced the video card before 2016 Dec free of cost. Mine is MBP early 2011 model. No other steps worked. Tried everythinv from nvram reset to hardware test etc etc.

It's not clear whether you can boot successfully in safe mode. You seem to be mixing that up with verbose mode, which is unrelated.

Same problem on my end. Came out of no where this morning when just working as usual. I'm out of ideas as well. I have done just about everything you have done.

The issue was now solved by the service staff of our local Apple reseller. Within two minutes they confirmed (with some sort of "Service Tool") that it is the video issue mentioned above.

Did they cover it? I have the same issue and wondering if they will cover it.
