Q: iTunes Match Says ALL My Music is Duplicated after cleaning all the duplicates out

I cleaned up my library of duplicates.

I have been using iTunes Match for  2 1/2 years.

Now iTunes in reality is not matching the music.  It says that almost every song I have is a duplicate and it has a download cloud beside every song and the copy that is in my library has a cloud symbol indicating it is a duplicate.  So every file on my HD is a duplicate and every file in MATCH should be downloaded.

So how do you clean this up as clearly any intelligent program would really do a match and say "hey there is a file on the HD that is the same"....and match it?

    Hi,

How did you clean up your duplicates? Where are the original files - in your iTunes library on your computer or on an external drive?

I used a 3rd party software to ensure the library was clean of duplicates.  It was cleaned and I ensured there were no duplicates.  Now it appears iTunes Match has decided the copy in my iTunes library is a duplicate and the one in the Match is the file I should use.

Some of the duplicates are because I have higher resolution Apple Lossless files in my Library.  So it says my Lossless files are duplicates that cannot be uploaded to Match.  Then it gives me the option to download from Match.  What this does is create duplicate appearances in my playlists.  It also creates Genius lists with the "Match" rather then the Lossless Recording.

Clearly there is something wrong with the logic used in Match and it is negatively impacting how I can use iTunes.  If a song is high resolution it is not a duplicate.  If I want to create a Genius List then it should use the files in my local iTunes library.

    HI,

if you have both lossless and matched files in your library, iTunes match will identify one of the copies as duplicate even though they are different formats - they have the same sound profile which match uses to match or upload.

Tiaking a step backwards, I would start the match process with only the lossless files in my library. iTunes match would then match or upload your library. Match does not touch your lossless files and you would leave them as is. However, you will have 256 kbps files in the cloud for used on your iOS devices or to stream from alternative iTunes libraries.

I realize this has been a while but I've been traveling.  This are my issues: the Match service wants to download all the 256kbps files and when I use genius to create a play list it appears to select the 256kbps files in the cloud and not my lossless versions.  Maybe I have to delete Match and start over?

    Thanks for the feedback.
