iTunes photo sync check box missing
In iTunes under the tab to sync photos, the check box is simply gone. I can't check anything to sync photos to my iPhone. What do I do?

In the HT201313 article you attached above, step 1. says you need the latest version of iTunes. Do you have it? (You currently need iTunes 12.0.1.)
Do you have a Windows or a Mac computer? Which display do you see referencing the article? The one under item 4. in "Sync photos to devices"? The one under item 3. in "To sync photos from a ..."?

I have iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Mac OS Yosemite 10.10.1. I am trying to sync photos from my iPhoto library to my iPhone 5S. When I connect my iPhone and I click on the "Photos" tab it says that my photos are synced through iCloud. However, I cannot seem to access any photos on my iPhone besides the one I took with the iPhone camera. There is no check box which I can check or un check in order to sync photos to my iPhone.
Do you see the iPhone as shown in the upper left of the first illustration under item 3. in "To sync photos from a ..."?
You need to be looking at an iPhone specific part of itunes to see the check box.
Other thoughts:
Do you have the most current iPhoto version on your Mac?
Do you have photos to sync that are not in iCloud?
I have a newer version of iTunes than the one shown in the example picture on the help page so the icon is actually on the left side. However, I can click on it and I have access to everything on my iPhone (music, videos, books, etc.) besides pictures. I have the latest version of iPhoto and only recently started using iCloud so I must have photos that aren't on it yet. Still, I cannot see any photo on my iPhone that I didn't take with the same iPhone camera, so even if my photos are on iCloud, I can't (or don't know how to) access them on my iPhone.
Are you unintentionally using iCloud Photo Library (beta)?
I have never tried it (am waiting until it is officially released). But it might be causing your issue.
Consider trying Settings > Photos & Camera > iCloud Photo Library = "Off" on your iPhone. Then try syncing again.
Yup...that was it. I guess I better wait until the official release because it appears to not be working quite yet. Thanks for your help!
Glad that did it!
In a few weeks or months, Apple should replace iPhoto on the Mac with a new Photos app. At that time, the iCloud Photo Library should be known to the Mac as well as the iPhone.
Enjoy your Apple gear!
