Q: Can I restore my 5S settings on a 4S device?

Hi guys,

I hope you can help me!

I sent my iPhone 5S for repair and decided to use my ex 4S as a replacement device in the meantime. I did make a backup of my 5S before I sent it to the dealer, however, when I connect my 4S (the device has been reset so it is clean of content) it recognizes it, but I cannot restore from backup. The button is not active as there are no backups at all. The device is fully operational, I had no issues whatsoever at the time I was using it which was nearly 3 years.

Please advice!

Appreciate it!

K.

    Hello, iKevin87.

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.

This sounds like you cannot see or select the most recent backup on your iPhone 4s.  If this is the case, here are the steps that I would go through.

iOS: Unable to restore from backup of a newer device

    Hey Jason,

Thanks for your reply. I did manage to update the iOS to its latest version 8.1.2 and the buttons become active. However, when I click on the Restore iPhone button a pop-up window appears asking me to back up the data before restoring, I skip that, then again it asks me to confirm I want to restore then to accept the Terms & Conditions and once I do that I get the following message:

"There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone "name". You do not have permission to access the requested source.

Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later."

I checked my network settings and made sure my network connection is active, but still I cannot restore the date on the 4S. It does not make any sense ...

It's possible that your antivirus or firewall is blocking the download. Try turning them off.
