What does SMC resetting it do ?

hello guys

actually i have a problem in my MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011) battery

System Yosemite

my problem is my battery every time i put the adapter in it tells me for the first time that > Battery is not charging

& when i try over and over again for two or three times ... it works ...

Can i have a way to solve this problem?

they told me to try to reset the SMC by holding on shift + Cmd + option

but i don't know what does it do when i reset the SMC

i mean .. what it will change in my laptop settings and all this stuffs ... what will happen after resetting it

and does it harm my lap ???

and do i have to remove the battery while i'm resetting it ???

and if there is any another solution better than resetting .. please tell me ... thnx guys

do i have to remove the battery before reset it ???

or no ?

and is there any solution to fix the battery message ( battery is not charging ) ... it's my only error i have

so if there is any another solution please feed me back

Whether or not you need to remove the battery depends on what model of Mac you have. See the article I linked to.

That statement doesn't apply to your model. Follow the directions under 'Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own' and ignore the set which says to remove the battery.

bro i've did it for a twice now .. and it didn't make any sense like it doesn't change anything in settings or in touch pad or in sounds

or anything ...

and when it was rebooting i've never heard sound of the fan ?? so what i have to do ?

and to keep you know more ... i've pressed Shift+ctrl+alt with the power button for a 5 seconds .. and i've released the shift+ctrl+alt buttons and i turn on the lap again ...

thats what i did ...

so what i have to do ?
