Q: Remote App loses contact in Wifi network set up with Internet Sharing

Remote App on my iPad loses contact with iTunes music library all the time.

I found out this only occurs when I set up my wifi network using Internet Sharing on my Mac Mini.

Problem does not occur when I set up my wifi network using  Airport Express.

My Mac Mini is switched on all the time and I do not like to have an Airport Express switched on all the time too.

I'd like the Internet Sharing feature to make my Airport Express superfluous.

All software is up to date on jan 10 2015.

It looks like a bug to me, but maybe someone sees what I'm overlooking.

    Hey nfromhouten,

The article linked below provides troubleshooting tips which may explain why you’re running into the issue with the Remote app when sharing your Internet connection from the Mac mini.

Remote app for iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch can't connect to iTunes or Apple TV - Apple Support

    Cheers,

    Thanks Jason,

Do you experience the same problem?

I fear there are not many Internet Sharing network users around.

I know the Apple support page you indicate. And studied it carefully once more.

The problem persists with the internet sharing wifi network.

The Airport Express  wifi network works fine.

    Any other tips?

    Niko

    Thanks, Jason.

I contacted the Apple support group for the Netherlands.

I was put through to a senior advisor and he is working on the problem.

For some days already, so I'm afraid he is not making much progress.

On his request I tried switching off the firewall and using an other iPad.

I did that, but the problem remains the same.

FYI I encountered the very same problem with a very old Mac Mini I used temporarily .

I thought it was a hardware issue then.

Sadder and wiser, I'm afraid there is a bug in the Internet Sharing of OSX.

They are paying special attention to Wifi in the next release of Yosemite, so I keep my fingers crossed.

TO keep you posted, Jason: today spoke to the third Apple Care Senior Adviser about this issue. (The first two never came back to me).

He looked into the matter and asked me to test Home Sharing on an Apple TV connected to the wifi-network I set up using Internet Sharing.

I did what he asked and it worked flawlessly for some time. I reported back to him and he promised to get in touch with developers. (Of OSX??, of the Remote app??; I don't know)

    I keep my fingers crossed.

    One more update, Jason.

At last I have the feeling my problem gets the proper attention.

An engineer is involved. He asked me to run a Wi-Fi problem fixing tool and to send me its report.

I hope he'll fix it, because I use the Mac mini mainly to play HiFi music and it is a great machine to do just that.

But the Remote App is indespensable for it.
