Q: boot camp 4 or 5 for windows 7

on my late 2009 iMac i have been running XP pro and this week it blacked out....... will not boot........

i reading the boot camp material i think that the auto update brought my boot camp to 5.1 something and most likely since it is not compatible with XP it is the cause of my issues.....

i will take this opportunity to install windows 7 pro since xp isn't supported anyway.........HOWEVER when i look at the chart it seems like my system should only have bootcamp 4.0 to run the new software and although other models can use either i don't think i can........

If this is the case some thoughts on how i can remove 5.1 and retain 4.0 would be helpful.....

Thanks much.........

Or i guess another lesson on the potential success of reverting to 3.0 something that supports XP would also be welcome....

Many thanks

Once Windows is installed, it is self-contained, and the only changes that can be made are manually while Windows is running or via Windows Update. OS X updates can not make any changes to Windows. They can, however, change the MBR via upgrades, which can lead to boot ability issues.

What version of OS X are you currently running?

The version of BC is controlled by the version of OS X you are running. The version of BC Drivers is a completely different ball of wax.
