Couple of suggestions above.
One, the EasyFind

is good, but not as fast as Spotlight. Just different. And free.
There is also

Find Any File.
okay, thanks, nothing came up when I searched for wild card (or wildcard) here before posting.
what I would like is the following:
If I have a file named schmunzelmonster, spotlight will find it when I search for schmunzel, but not for monster. If I name it schmunzelMonster it will find it by monster, if I name it schmunzelmOnster it will find it by onster but not monster. Makes sense, but sometimes it would be nice to turn that word-guessing off and have it find everything. I guess there is no Finder way to do this quickly.
I got the "name contains" trick, but it's a lot of clicking. EasyFind and FindAnyFile will do it but they are a bit slow.
yes, just wanting to not click through two popups. is there a short for name contains, as there is a name:onster ? (will go home now, will answer tomorrow)
EasyFind supports wild card and boolean
