garageband legacy instruments one mac to another

Hi All,

I've recently purchased a new Macbook Pro running OSX 10.10 Yosemite and it comes with Garageband 10.0.3 (if I remember right). My older Macbook Pro has Garageband 10.0.3 but was upgraded from an earlier version so still has the legacy instruments.

I really do need the legacy instruments on my new Macbook Pro. Could someone please let me know how (or if) I can migrate the instruments from one Macbook to the other.

I'm historically a PC bloke so I'm not the most technical when dealing with files / folders on Macs so any help would be appreciated.

kind regards,

Nik

To migrate the "Legacy" instruments from your old Mac, migrate all missing items from the Instrument Library.

Open the "Library" folder at the top level of your Macintosh HD on the old mac.

Then look for the folder "Library > Application Support > GarageBand > Instrument Library"

Copy all missing items from the Instrument Library to the corresponding folder on your new mac.

If you want the old loops as well, copy also the folder "Library > Audio > Apple Loops" and copy them over. Then rebuild the Loop index from the drop down menu at the top of the Loop Browser.

After transferring the loops and Instruments restart the mac.

Hey - I tried doing the same thing. Garageband is able to see all the new loops after indexing, but it can't see my instruments.

On my old mac, I had the Garageband which came with it, and I had Logic Pro Studio 9 installed (something like 30+GB of loops and instruments). In my old mac, after installing logic, I could use many of the instruments and effects in garageband. I did the following:

1. In Library/Application Support/ , I copied Garage/Instrument Library/ and Logic/Drummer, Logic/EXS Factory Samples/, Logic/Sample Instruments/ .

2. From Library/Audio/ I copied "Apple Loops" and "Impulse Responses".

Any suggestions what else I should do ?
