how to transfer iPod music to my new computer

I have a new 5K retina and I want to transfer my music library from my iPod to it. Can I really only download from my computer to the iPod and not the other way around??

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014), OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)
