Q: Computer "crashes" during partitioning, partion rendered unusuable

Today I tried to install Windows 7 using bootcamp assistant. Everything went fine until about 3/4ths through the partitioning stage, at which point my MBA forced shutdown and told me that it had to restart due to an error. When I logged back in, I found that neither BootCamp nor Disk Utility recognized that there was a separate partition on the SSD, however I lost about 24GB of space on it (which is what I was assigning to Windows.) I tried to increase the size of the main partition but Disk Utility told me that "the target disk is too small for this operation."

I have no idea how to proceed from here. If it matters, I am using FireVault encryption on my harddrive.

A:

If you have a Time Machine backup, you can erase the internal drive and restore from the TM backup and start over again.

Please post the output of the following commands from OS X Terminal (Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal). Enter your password when prompted by the sudo command.

diskutil list
diskutil cs list
sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

The first three commands show there is no free space, and your LVG/LV is 120GB. To check if "Get Info" is correct, please post the output of command df -h from OS X Terminal.

Can you boot in Safe Mode - OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? - Apple Support ? Please also see Mac OS X: How to start up in single-user or verbose mode - Apple Support . There is an overall article also which covers both - Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck - Apple Support.

If you start Bootcamp Assistant are you allowed to continue from where you left off?

I can boot in safe mode and normal mode perfectly fine - the disk space still shows as lower than expected. My issue is that I seem to have lost a part of my hard drive, and Bootcamp assistant does not detect it as a partition that exists and it can remove. I looked through the links you posted, and did both a verify disk and repair disk using DiskUtil and everything seemed to be fine.
