My apple id is linked to a virgin.net email and I'm very concerned I may lose my virgin.net email, and thus my apple id.

My apple id is linked to a virgin.net email. Virgin are now selling the virgin.net part of their business to talk talk and I'm very concerned I may lose my virgin.net email, and thus my apple id. Apple for some bizarre reason won't let me use my iCloud email as my id. Can anybody offer any insights on this please? I do have a me.com email but perhaps this falls under apples regulations too.
