I want to change PDF text color in Preview 8.0; none of the menus offer "font," or anything that has worked.

I want to choose PDF text color in Preview 8.0; none of the drop-down menus (including Tools) offer "font," or anything that has worked. I am using Yosemite 10.10.1 on a 2011 iMac. I am editing a PDF document in which the text is all black, but when I enter text it is red and I have not been able to change it to black.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7)

You cannot change the original PDF text color in your document from black. You would need a PDF editor — which Preview is not. Like Adobe Reader, Preview limits you to adding text annotations in varying text sizes and colors. These text annotations can be selected, altered, and removed. The following shows text annotations selected, where the color, font, font-size, and alignment are offered in a sub-toolbar. This can be invoked with control+command+T, or Tools > Annotate > Text.

If you have a need to edit the original PDF text, you will need Adobe Acrobat Professional, or PDFpen6 (OS X App Store). If it is a one-page PDF, you can drop it on the latest LibreOffice, and edit the original text.
