Q: 27" iMac (3.4 i7, Late 2012) screen burn-in Yosemite only

When Yosemite was released I jumped on downloading it.  The first instant of heavy use I realized there was blue ghosting that occurred when the white space of a program was displayed for too long.  I have known for awhile with the persistent burn-in issues that were prevalent with the late 2012 27" iMacs.  I, for some reason, was one of the lucky ones that never had an issue.  For the first year and a half my iMac was heavily used, 8-10 hours daily, with absolutely no burn-in.  After the installation of Yosemite that changed.  I would start to see faint blue burn-in after only an hour or so of use and would need to actively move screens or switch desktops within Mission Control to reduce the affect.

About a week ago I decided to test a theory.  I reverted back to a TimeMachine backup right before I updated to Yosemite.  Within that time I have disabled screen saver and display sleep and would keep open programs with large amounts of white space (Mail, Safari, etc.).  There has been no visual sign of any burn-in.  I have left the windows open for roughly 5-7 hours without any instance of the display sleeping.

Obviously, for many with Late 2012 27" iMacs who have had screen burn-in issues it has been a hardware issue.  This is definitely a software problem within Yosemite.  I have no idea if it is a problem within the Yosemite code itself or when I upgraded from Mavericks.  I may take the testing further and whipe my drive and start fresh with Yosemite to see if I have an recurring issues.  Not sure when I will get to that but once I do I will edit this post and add my findings.

Additional information:

No, I do not have AppleCare (however, that will be done for all future purchases)

It is not an issue reverting back to Mavericks for me.  I am posting this to see if anyone else has seen this issue when switching to Yosemite.

Discussions would be great.  Feel free to ask anything that I may have left out.

I'm experiencing the same thing. I'm on a late 2013 27" iMac. Never had any burn-in problems at all prior to Yosemite. I just installed it a couple days ago and I'm getting faint blue squares, unpredictably.

This is unacceptable. I have two Cinema Displays, a 24" and a 30", both of which have developed burn-in, and I rely on my iMac to be an accurate display for editing photos. Now I'm dealing with this new issue.

    Who else is noticing this?

I am experiencing the same issue on my late 2012 27" iMac at work. Also, I did not notice any retention before updating to Yosemite.

I do however have another 27" late 2012 iMac sitting at my home office - also updated to Yosemite, but haven't experienced the retention yet. (I haven't used it much since updating to Yosemite tho)

I tried out Apples directions as yo how you avoid screen retention (Avoiding image persistence on Apple displays - Apple Support) with little success. This is however not an acceptable solution to avoid retention. Even my 5 year old plasma screen suffer from less retention than my iMac.
