I'm trying to stream a video (.mp4) from my laptop to my tv using my Apple tv/Airplay which works fine, if I don't want to do anything else on the laptop. Is there a way to do this & still surf the internet w/out having each tab show up on my tv thus hiding the video that I'm watching?

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like you want to use AirPlay Mirroring but dont want it to mirror everything on the screen. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.
