Can a photo book layout have a photo across the middle (seam) of the book?

Can a photo book layout have a photo across the middle (seam) of the book?

I am trying to have a photo span across the middle of the book so that parts of it are on each page, but cannot seem to set it up? Is there a layout that does this or does anyone know how to do it? I tried to place photo frame on a black background, but on the right page, the photo goes under the back background and I cannot send the background back or move the photo forward.

Any trick I should know, or is it impossible?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

What is your iPhoto version?

In iPhoto '11 you can scroll down in the layout options for a page and select one of the "Spread" options. It will depend on the theme, if "Spread" is available.

In earlier iPhoto versions I simply duplicated the photo and cropped the duplicates to the left and right halves of the photo and put them into separate photo boxes on the left and right page, to meet in the middle.
