Q: forgot back up password

I dont remember ever setting a password but i want to transfer my info via backup to my new iPhone but I am prompted for a password which I don't remember.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

    Sorry, but without the password, the backup can't be used to restore:

     

    Make sure that the password you use is one that you'll remember. If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and forget your password, you won't be able to restore from backup, and your data will be unrecoverable.

    If you can't remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and choose set up as a new device when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore.

    If you mean iTunes, then you  (or whoever created a backup of that device at some point) entered a password (twice), and this encrypted the iTunes backup.  There's nowhere to 'recover' that password other than your own brain.

    If you mean iCloud, then it's your Apple ID password.  If you've forgotten that, got to iforgot.apple.com.
