Q: Hi, my second hand MacBook Pro will not start up.

I have just returned from 4 months abroad when I didn't take my MacBook Pro, nor was it plugged in at home.

I now get an error message saying that it had to shut down unexpectedly, that I am to wait or press any key.  When I do this the screen turns blank.  I did once get the chance to press shutdown on the screen, the machine duly shut down but when I re-started it I got the same error message.

Any ideas please for a Mac newbie?
