Where is this Apple ID on your device?  iCloud?  Messages?  FaceTime?  GameCenter?  iTunes & App Store?

You will need the password for the old ID, do you have it?

If you cannot remember or reset the password you are stuck. The phone is useless. Is the Apple ID yours, or does it belong to a previous owner? See: Find My iPhone Activation Lock - Apple Support for an explanation of what you have encountered.

Perhaps you've changed the primary email address of your Apple ID, but did not first sign out of iCloud before doing so?
