Q: Apple says Mavericks is UNAVAILABLE!!!

I was on the phone with them today and that’s what the tech rep told me.

He said and I quote “Yosemite is the best operating system we’ve ever made and there’s nothing wrong with it.”

He asked me why I needed Mavericks anyway and that the bad reviews on the app store are from “users, and they don’t know what they’re talking about”. He then went on to say, “the professional reviews are all good!”

So, then I asked if I could buy the thing and he said…No, It’s not available and that I should download Yosemite because it’s better!

So there you have it. No more Mavericks.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4), 3.06 GHz Intel Core i3

I guess you were routed to the nearest store - gee before the brick and mortar ones apple store people were very polite and helpful --

Users know more about what is wrong with a system because if there is unexpected event the users will find it.

And professional reviewers may not find the faults because they are always pressing the correct buttons.

If you have ever purchased Mavericks from the App Store, then it remains available for re-download to that or another Mac you own. Check your Purchased tab.

Yes it has been unavailable since Yosemite was released, unless of course you

    a) you previously purchased it

    b) kept a copy of the uninstaller

    c) have a Mac that came with Mavericks as the default OS X

    d) have a full clone or backup of a previous Mavericks installation

Otherwise, no, it is not available. Given the complaints about it here on the Forums, that may be a good thing, as there are nowhere near as many complaints about Yosemite, which I have had no issues with.

    Cheers

I guess they have to give out the official line, but calling Yosemite their best OS? No.

That is a matter of opinion.

I think this whole Yosemite vs. Mavericks thing is split right down the middle. I'm just worried because I bought this computer with Mavericks on it, someone upgraded it before selling it to me. If I go to Yosemite, I'm not sure I can get back. Or can I? To Mavericks, that is.

There were tons of complaints about ITUNES 11 updates - I didn't have problems with it because I only use the tunes half and its 99% my uploaded CD's.

So saying Yosemite isn't giving you a problem may mean you are not really using it.

Less complaints may mean - those who updated to Maverick and were burned are not planning to update to Yosemite.

If apple were smart they would start polling users as to why they are not updating -- instead of just asking their employees.

    Make a system backup.

One option is to create a new partition (~30- 50 GB), install the new OS, and ‘test drive’ it. If you like/don’t like it it, you can then remove the partition. Do a backup before you do anything. By doing this, if you don’t like it you won’t have to go though the revert process.

This is the most sensible way to do a major upgrade.

It is what I do every time a new OS is released. Lion lasted a whole week before I erased it.

Here is what you're supposed to do. When any new OS comes out, you back it up to a USB flash drive. There are probably millions of those in existence. One need one.

This situation has turned into an opportunity for some people. You can buy a Mavericks  flash drive on eBay. Good feedback on a number of those transactions, too.
