Q: Can't log into iMessage or Facetime

I can no longer log into FaceTime or iMessage.  FaceTime used to work fine and I was also previously able use the messaging function.  I think the change to IOS 8 compelled the setup of iMessage.  They both refuse to work now.  I can't log in to either of these.  I've read the official Apple trouble shooter which tells you to turn them off and reset the device, but there is no option to turn them off in the related setting tab.  This is for iPad Air not an iPhone.  Apparently the screens are different.  This issue seems to have been around for quite a while.  Any resolution?  I can't find one!  Help!

Do you think it will be fixed for iOS 6? I have an ipod 4g, and I went through 3 reps. None of what they had to say worked. The next step would be to pay a $100 and send it out. NOT GONNA HAPPEN. Hope this will get resolved somehow.

Honestly, I don't know. From what In have seen, it seems to be an account problem rather than a device or ios problem. I could be wrong, but my friend can log in on my iPad using her ID but I can't log in on mine or hers.

brand new iPad mini 3 - updated it to os8.3 - created new ID, not able to activate iMessage or facetime -  two long telecons then given an instore appointment - 1.5 hours at store - no solution - tried the ID on their iPad - it activated.  Given a refurbished mini with os8.0 (because didn't buy the original from iStore) - the replacement worked - and one day later activation problem is back  !!!    main reason for buying iPad was to facetime the kids.  biggest frustration is that this is known problem but guru's not aware!

I have been dealing with this for a few weeks. I've got a senior tech talking to engineers and my account is in test mode. The Apple Store was no help at all. They thought I needed another iPad. Tech support at Apple at one time suggested another iPad. But I didn't think it was my iPad so I said no.

Now it seems like it's an account problem of some kind. They are working on it. Everyone has been very nice but they haven't figured it out.

Tried using the support chat facility and they kept escalating it up the levels.  They followed up with another phone call from a senior who had come across the problem recently and had referred it to engineering - they had provided a response back say they were working on it.  The senior then said he would log mine to the engineers but expected the same response back.  It looks like it has been going on for some time for quite a few people - I'm just wondering if there is something that the validation process is looking for in the ID, but then if it was simple there would have been some advice by now.  Anyway the more people who get it logged at engineering the more chance of a fix - it just a shame everyone has to go up the chain to get it logged.

It is middle of July 2015 now and his issue with an error message login in to iMessage and Face time is still not resolved.

Would be nice to have some input from apple support. They been quiet and would not help over the phone or in the store. At least we have rights to know what is the problem! Is it the hardware or software. They need to fix it now. Enough of the guessing, we can make suggestions all day long, but nothing really helps. Those, who manage to fix it by restoring, just got lucky and manage to by pass this major glitch. I'm getting really pi.sed at Apple not very supportive support.

Hello Apple, are you reading this?

July 26th... has anyone seen progress or other resolutions on this?

We just bought our two kids new iPods two days ago, set them up on the Family Sharing,  and they cannot sign in to iMessage or FaceTime.

If we try to set up iMessage or FaceTime, we can't get past the signin for each in Settings or when we click on the app in the main screen.   just click 'sign in', it whirrs for a few seconds, then sign in button is active again.  Rinse, repeat.  Frustration.

I bought iPod touch 6th generation on 26th July, and i couldn't sign in iMessage and FaceTime.

I exchanged my device several times and tried to sign in again and again. It didn't work.

I called apple call center and they are working on my issue. I don't know how progress they are doing now.

I think you should call them.

I tried all solutions on the apple website and another websites, and nothing helps me.

Now, I couldn't sign in iMessage and FaceTime on macbook, iPad air, and iPod touch.

I guess there is no solution from now. They said there is some problem with my apple id. but i can use App store with same id. Nonsense ):

Go to preferences and log onto your iCloud account. That solved my problem!
