Q: How do I change owner name and profile to iPad I just traded up for a new iPad Air?

I just bought a new iPad Air and wish to give my old iPad 2 to my brother. How do I delete my owner profile and appropriate data, and reset the old iPad to his owner name & profile?

iPad 2, iOS 8

If it's registered to your account then you can log into your account and remove it : https://supportprofile.apple.com/ - your brother can then register it to his account.

For the content that's on the iPad (you've copied off everything  that you want ?) then you can log out of your account by by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store, remove your iCloud account from it (Settings > iCloud > Sign Out) and remove all of your content and put it back to factory defaults via Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content And Settings. Your brother should then be able to set it up with his account and put his own content on it.

Thanks for your quick response. It seems like it will do the job. I was trying to avoid all the data being deleted, but it's too much of a pain I'll Use the easy way out. Chris

Will the reset erase the apps that came pre-installed on the iPad?  My wife just bought a Janome sewing machine that came with an iPad Air and I, unthinkingly set it up with my Apple ID.  It is preloaded with the Janome sewing Apps and we need to switch the User/Registration to her account without losing the Apps.

Did this iPad belong to someone else before?

There's no real way to pre-load 3rd party Apps onto an iPad. Resetting will wipe out any no Apple apps.  3rd Party Apps cannot be pre-loaded to an iPad  on their own. They would need to be associated with someone's Apple ID to be there. In which case you would not have the license to use them yourself and updating them would require the Apple ID used to download it to the iPad Originally. Which if you don't know would mean it would be impossible to update them.

With that said, most of the Janome Apps appear to be free. So it would just be a question of downloading them again with your wife's Apple ID.

The best course of action is to always wipe any iOS device you get before using (unless you get it new from Apple).

Make sure that the Apple ID in Settings->iCloud is yours and not someone else's, and that Find my iPad is turned off there.

Otherwise you will not be able to restore it.

The iPad came with the sewing machine.  It has the name Janome embossed on the back.  It is not a sticker.  I assume Apple and Janome have some kind of relationship.  When I powered up the iPad, it went to the setup process, so it was not already associated with someone's Apple ID.  I suppose there is more to this, somehow.

O.K. found the Promo now for it.

It seems they do pre-load the Apps somehow.

You can if you really want to simply sign out from Settings->iCloud, Settings->iTunes & App Stores, Settings->Facetime, Settings->Messages from your Apple ID, and sign in with hers.  Then go to Settings->General->About->Name and Change iPad's Name there.

Beyond that, the Apps included with the iPad seem to be the free ones you can download again from the app Store, so no real issue with restoring either.

Probably using a configuration profile. Companies can use these to configure their company devices and install their own company apps.

I’d delete the profile and download the apps directly from the App store.

Apple does not install any 3rd party apps on their devices. This is what Sprint, At&T, Verizon, etc. do not have apps preinstalled.
