Why is 'Choose Signature' greyed out?

I want to change the default Signature for my email accounts, but have found that the 'Choose Signature' option in the Signatures section of the Mail >Preferences is greyed out. Even so, the option shown in the greyed out window is set to 'None' - which is what I want to use - but when opening a new message in any of the accounts, my basic Signature is automatically entered in the message window.

An earlier post which appeared to be concerned with the same problem included the suggestion "I had to click on pop account and add my signature there for the choose signature box to light up".

Unfortunately, I do not understand where 'pop account' is so I can click on it, nor where I can then 'add my signature' so as to get 'the Choose Signature box to light up'. I have opened the Accounts section in Mail >Preferences and tried opening up each & every one of my POP accounts, but cannot find anywhere that allows a Signature to be added.

I did not have this problem in Panther but cannot remember which version of Tiger initially introduced it. I just want my blank message window back so I can then choose my preferred Signature manually.

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated, in anticipation of which, V many thanks.

Click on the Signatures tab once in the account preferences.

Jim,

'CLICK' - as you say - & that fully clarified what was meant by earlier post & clarified that I have been doing that anyway, so all thanks for my renewed peace of mind.

R C-R,

Now you have identified it, I do observe such behaviour, having previously had 'All Signatures' selected, assuming that that was the default mode. Got that wrong, didn't I?

So, VERY many thanks for the guidance towards a simple solution that worked completely.
