Mac Pro not powering Pix Caddy USB/FW800

I'm using a pix caddy SSD from Sound Devises and it's not getting power from the Mac Pro in USB 3 or FW 800. If run the Pix Caddy into the thunderbolt monitor I get power to the usb but the the speed is 2.0. I cannot plug the unit into the Mac Pro and get power from either the USB or thunderbolt to FW800 adapter.

I can get power when plugged into my retina display laptop.

It seem strange that the new Mac Pro will not power the devise directly.

Any ideas?

I've never had a problem powering devises from other USB 3.0 or FW800 devices prior.

Do you have the Thunderbolt cable fully plugged into the Mac's Thunderbolt port?

Have you tried other Thunderbolt ports on the Mac?

Try resetting the SMC and PRAM

Also hit this issue. I have no fix at the moment.

USB 3.0 connection, the drive mounts maybe 1 in 5 times, then errors out.

Thunderbolt to 800 adaptor, to 800 cable, drive works fine.

Caddy mounts fine on Macbook Pros.

You may be looking at a device that is drawing too much power for one USB-3 alone. FireWire can supply much more power.

Is there a way to run it with its own power brick?
