Q: Why won't Terminal accept my admin password?

I am trying view Live 3D objects from a VERY reputable website (Mathematica - Mathworld - http://mathworld.wolfram.com/about/live.html) in Safari but I keep getting a security warning telling me Java has been blocked even though it is listed to allow for this website. After searching this forum I found a post about Java 7 being insecure and that I should re-enabIe Java 6. I opened Terminal (as instructed) and pasted the first command into the Terminal window but all I got was a warning that I should check my typing before using the "sudo" command and then asking for my password. When I tried to enter my (admin) password nothing happens. I can't type or paste anything! What next?

I am running Safari 8.0.2 and Yosemite on a Mac Mini Fusion Drive with 16gb RAM.

iPhone 4S, iOS 7.0.4, iCloud_verification

"If prompted for your administrator password after a command, enter it and then press the Return or Enter key."

What you type is not echoed, not even with •••• characters. Type it and then press Return or Enter.
