I have a web address that is embedded on my desktop I can't move it or even open it. so it's basically useless to me. so I would like to delete it I don't know how it even got their?

You mean it's part of the wallpaper? Change to a different wallpaper. If you mean something else, you need to explain what's wrong a little more clearly.

No that didn't help it followed each desktop background.

yes I change eanch back ground and it stayed up. if i open word it stays, right now it's in my current view.

pull the icon into your trash and it should remove the icon from the desktop
That often happens when you click on an email address in Mail and then go to another app. Try closing Mail or reboot as Linc suggested.
