Can I play a DVD on my computer and watch it on the appleTV?

I would like to view a DVD playing on our home computer (Dell) on the AppleTV. I tried to use Airplay but that did not work. Is there a way to share the content from our DVD drive on the Dell with the AppleTV?

Can anyone help?

Yes, there is a simple way to watch DVD on Apple TV, that is to save DVD in Apple TV supported video format like MP4, M4V, or MOV. Then add DVD movie in iTunes and then stream to Apple TV, that works for me. BTW, this is a guide about how to watch DVD on Apple TV, it can help you a lot.
