iPhone 6 ios 8 "carrier settings update" not doing anything

I bought an iPhone 6 with no contract before they were sold factory unlocked. As i live abroad, this was not an issue, since t-mobile does not lock me out of my carriers in argentina.

But every time i plug the phone to my computer, itunes tells me that there is a "carries settings update", to which i agree, but it does not do anything. I had to configure my carrier settings manually, and on "General"-> "About" -> "Carrier" it says "Carrier 18.0".

Is this supposed to be like this? should i use the t-mobile chip, update settings,. and then use my local chip and try to update again? I'm afraid that may carrier-lock my phone.

iPhone 6, iOS 8.1.2

Carrier updates are carrier-specific; a T-Mobile carrier update will not be helpful with your carrier. Go to Settings/General/About and tap on the name of the carrier. If there is an update available it will be installed. One possibility is that your carrier does not support the iPhone officially. In this case you will have to contact the carrier for further help.
