New iP6 and old iP5 -- how to "untie" them

Hi all.

I have a new iP6 and I'm keeping my (very broken but functional) iP5 to use as a joint devise for a few gaming apps and maybe some streaming or what ever by anyone in my household. The 5 has no service plan so it's now just a wifi device...

Currently, my 5 and 6 sync together (IE:mail, contacts, pics, apps etc -- when ever I install a new app on the 6, it will also make it's way to the 5) and I don't want this. I want them to act independently -- to, in a sense, I want the 5 to no longer "know" that it's mine. I don't want my mail to show up there, I don't want the game center to be connected, etc -- I want everything fresh and anonymous.

I'm assuming that [Settings > General > Reset] is where I need to go but I have some basic questions before doing that:

Would "reset all settings" be sufficient for what I need, or do I need to "erase all content and settings?"
Since (a) these two phones sync together and (b) I'm having trouble backing up my new 6 (actually have no current backup because I've never been able to do it, but that's another topic), if I need to erase the 5, I want to be sure that tapping [Settings > General > Reset > Erase...] on my iP5 is devise specific and will not impact anything on my iP6.
Or, is there a different way to do this entirely? (Yanking the sim, for example...)

Any insight will be greatly appreciated!

On the iPhone 5, Settings > iTunes & App stores.

Turn off all Automatic Downloads.

Hm. OK...

But, is that only a start? IE:

Will my pics (taken on the 6), mail, and all the rest still sync over to the 5?
My son and I play a game together and he gets messed up a lot because they're linked on the game center and both phones are on my ID. How can I clear my data from there?
Etc...

I really need everything gone in a way that it can't be just turned back on. (I mean, I spy on my kids all the time. Can't really do that very effectively if they can spy on my spying activities!!)

If you are syncing them to the same iTunes library you need to select what you want to sync.

Yes -- I looked at that thread prior to posting and it points me in the "erase" direction. However, the part where that thread falls a bit short for me in this scenario (not really "selling or giving away") is in my second bullet -- changed to 1 here:

Although, perhaps the "sign out of iCloud" direction in step 2 is what would prevent this problem for me -- I just want to be sure before erasing. If erasing the iP5 also erases the iP6, I'M TOAST, as they sometimes say...

To answer your questions:

1. You do need to delete all content and settings to remove all your accounts form the iPhone 5.

2. No, resetting your iPhone 5 will do nothing to your iPhone 6. Your iPhone 6 will be unaffected.

3. Removing the sim will accomplish nothing. It will delete nothing on the iPhone, and will not prevent Apps downloading to it over Wifi.

OK -- thanks you both!

It's crazy how nervous I get doing this!!!

Just tapped "sign out" of iCloud on the 5 and I get the prompt asking what to do calendar and contact data -- keep or delete.

Rolling on the idea that this is devise specific and it will only delete from the 5, I'm hitting delete.

The spinning wheel of signing out mounts tension...

Contacts and calendar wiped on the 5 and intact on the 6 -- I'm a happy man!!
