Jan 15, 2015 11:44 PM in response to Fayruth1by Jeff,What is your intended use or what peripheral device do you have that requires a USB port? If you need to replace a printer, you must find out (before buying one) if the manufacturer includes drivers for the older legacy (pre-OS X) Mac OS versions. Many will not have drivers for OS 8.x and 9.x. If you wanted to connect a DVD±RW drive to the 7600, I wouldn't even try. A 7600 isn't going to be running OS 10.2.8, which is really the minimum OS version for USB 2.0 performance, which is what you'd need for burning DVD disks. If you just want to copy files to a USB flash drive, you could do that by installing a USB 1.1 or a USB 2.0 adapter card in one of your 7600's available PCI slots. A USB 2.0 card will only function at the speed of a USB 1.1 card in a pre-OS X Mac, but for flash drives, that's fast enough. What OS version is your 7600 running? You really need to be running at least OS 8.6 or preferably OS 9.1, to have the best compatibility with modern USB devices, like flash drives. For OS 8.6, there is the "USB Adapter Card Support 1.4.1" installer file that you must download/run for the PCI card to be recognized. OS 9.1's included database of supported USB devices is better than what's provided for 8.6 with the download I mentioned. You must install the PCI card first, before running the "USB Adapter Card Support 1.4.1" installer. The earliest USB support was included with OS 8.1 and the first generation of iMacs having built-in USB ports. It was primarily designed to support their included USB keyboard and mouse. As the scope of USB peripherals broadened, newer versions of the support files (drivers) were released to include newer devices. I have never seen any USB support for versions as old as OS 7.6 or 7.6.1.
