Merge iMessage and SMS

There are two seperate thread from the same contact in my message. (one is iMessage and another is the normal text message)
How can I merge them together in one single thread. I tried delete both messages but when I create new message, there are two option from the same contact. (For example, When I type in my dad name, there are two option, my dad with phone number and my dad with email address.)

If I choose the one with the phone number it will create a text message thread. when I choose the one with email address it creat an iMessage thread.

iPhone 6, iOS 8.1.2

TThe issue seems to be on your dad side, have him check his settings.

TThat's why imessage goes to his Apple id anted text to his number.

have your sad go to settings - message - iMessage off - then back on when it activates make sure his number is check.

i Would als check his FaceTime settins as well

Do you have your iMessage set up to receive on your email? That is perhaps why there are separate threads. See if you can go into settings messages and send / receive and uncheck your email
