Q: Trouble deleting internet accounts

I have a number of email accounts in Mac Mail and I need to delete some of them.

When in Mac Mail, if I go into Accounts and click the minus button to delete the mailboxes, it says I have to do this in Internet Accounts.

So if I go out to System Preferences > Internet Accounts and click the minus button to delete the accounts, it gives me a confirmation (and I click Ok) and it seems like all the accounts have been deleted.  If I go out and come back into Internet Accounts, it seems like these accounts are duly deleted.

But when I go into Mail to delete the mailboxes, it loops back to the beginning again, and the accounts reappear in System Preferences > Internet Accounts.

  • I've already tried Utilities > Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions.
  • And I've also tried closing Mac Mail while deleting the Internet Accounts.

    Hi creativepassion,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that after you delete some accounts from Internet Accounts they repopulate after trying to delete them from Mail as well. In this situation I would suggest turning off iCloud Keychain first and then attempt to delete the accounts. Please let me know if you have the same result.

iCloud Keychain can also keep the accounts you use in Mail, Contacts, Calendar, and Messages up to date across all of your Mac computers. If you sign in to Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, or any other accounts in Internet Accounts on OS X Mavericks, iCloud can push those accounts to your Mac computers as well.

    Cheers,

    Joe
