Q: Can't print emails from Safari mail....again.

Last week, I thought I'd sorted the problem out, but it's come back to haunt me. I can print from every other source, but still unable to print emails from Safari mail.

This is what's in System Preferences>Printers and Scanners: Screen Shot 2015-01-15 at 13.23.40.png

I was given all sorts of advice, but now the problem has come back to haunt me.

I have also downloaded the latest software via App Store. It has to be said that there is no reference to being compatible with Yosemite (see below).

And after all that, it still won't print

I am bumping this because clearly you have continuing problems.

A communications issue may help insolving problem:

I am looking at your previous threads with similar topic:

Why can I not print emails from Safari mail

    and

Why can't I print emails in Safari mail?

    and

Why does nothing show up when I want to print messages from my Safari email

Regarding communications: when you refer to Safari email remember that there is no built in email function within Safari.

All you can do is open a page or link and select the Share Options.

    See picture below.

    SafariShare.png

Are you saying that your "Safari" email does not open

    OR

Are you going to the Print menu option within Safari and then not seeing your Printer?

Or, I suppose Epson may not have a driver for your device

Hi Sparkleberry, when I first bought an iMac (G5) I could print emails from the Safari platform, but this past 3 or 4 years, that has not been possible.

I suspect that it could well be a communications issue, or something that Apple may have removed from the Safari application.

Oddly enough, as was explained in my previous thread, I changed the printer specs in Sys. Prefs. to show the actual printer name, and, lo and behold, I was able to print 1 page of email. Since then, nothing!

I must admit that I don't print many emails, but whenever I feel the need, I would much prefer to print from source rather than have to forward emails to another address and print from there.

Safari email DOES open. That's the reason for my frustration. When I click print, all I get is the usual print dialogue dropdown showing an empty page. I would expect to see at least a condensed version of the page I want to print within the area we would expect to see it.

Your pic is somewhat different to what I see when I click on File> Share as below: Screen Shot 2015-01-15 at 17.38.50.png

What I don't have is Air Drop, but no matter. Are you suggesting that I forward the odd email to another of my addresses to print from there?

As previously explained, I downloaded the latest software from Epson, but also, as stated, there was no mention of Yosemite (OSX 10.10.1)

If you haven't done so already, try resetting the printing system.

Hi Eric, firstly, the page seems to be aimed at Mavericks. I'm using Yosemite.

Secondly, the window that comes up is nothing like the one described in the instructions.

This is what I get: Screen Shot 2015-01-15 at 21.30.09.png

It should be noted that the HP printer is not connected.

The 2nd instruction advises: Hold down the Control key as you click in the list at the left, then choose “Reset printing system” from the menu that appears. "Reset Printing System does not appear.

I'm not a person who makes assumptions that 'a' means the same as 'b'.

    Hi, Sapper,

We (speaking for Eric and myself) both took your description in your original post to mean that you were referring to Mavericks.

It would help others to assist you if you gave an updated description of your OS, and your Safari version, too.

Hi, I must state at this time that I am using Yosemite 10.10.1. I posted my query in the Yosemite query board for that reason.

    I am using Safari 8.0.2.

My Sys. prefs shows 2 printers. The only one connected is the Epson Stylus DX8400.

Please advise if there is anything else you might need to know in relation to my query.

    Hi, Snapper,

(It doesn't matter where you post the original post, in your profile you show yourself as a Mavericks user, which was misleading me.)

I "think" I have depuzzled it... it is a communications issue as I wrote earlier - but I meant dealing with terminology as to what Safari is and Mail is.

In Safari you have two choices when you want to send someone the page you are looking at: send them either the entire page(s) from the website, or send them just the link to the page of that website.

    (1) Sending someone the page you are viewing in Safari, you go to

    File

    Share

    Email This Page

Then Mail opens (NOT Safari Mail, there is no such thing) and then the entire page gets dropped into your mail message, and you select your recipient(s).

    (2) Sending someone the LINK to the page you are viewing in Safari, you go to

    File

    Share

    Email This Page

    then hold the SHIFT key

    and that becomes now

    Email Link to This Page

Then Mail opens (NOT Safari Mail, there is no such thing) and then the LINK to the entire page gets dropped into your mail message, and you select your recipient(s).

So, you seem to be doing option 2.  Holding down the Shift key and sending only a link.

Because... then you get a little bit of content on page 1 of something you might be printing from MAIL, the link, and nothing on any other page.

If you do not hold down the shift key, the entire page pops in and you or the recipient sees it all, and thus no "blank" pages on the printer.

Does this help or am I off the mark?

    Hi Sparkleberry,

    Firstly, who is Snapper?

Secondly, I think I was slightly off the mark. It's not Safari Mail, it's iCloud Mail.

Thirdly, I am not after sending or forwarding mail. I am wanting to print an email...any that I choose.

I have since managed to edit my 'equipment' data to show that I am using Yosemite, so any and all references to Mavericks are, as of now, null and void.

So, regretfully, everything you replied with is of no use to me at all. Come to think of it, neither is the Epson software I downloaded.

I guess I'll have to carry on forwarding any particular emails to one of my other addresses and print from there.

It has become evident that iCloud doesn't allow emails to be printed.

    Thank you for your trouble,

Hi, sapper, as I wrote in my first post, it is a communications issue - as in clear communications in defining the problem. So this probably should all have been posted in iCloud.   So that makes the search for your solution different than using Safari.

In any event, here is a suggestion by linc davis to you in another thread you posted in 2013

Why am I not able to print an email in Safari, but can in Mail.

Have  you run the tests that linc davis suggested?

Right: I followed Eric's advice and clicked on 'More'.

Then number 3 instruction advised Screen Shot 2015-01-16 at 15.18.42.png

It took me a short while to find the cog icon. Clicked on the cog which showed the option to print. Sucess!!

So, my next question is: why couldn't I just click the printer icon at the top of my Safari page thus: Screen Shot 2015-01-16 at 15.14.55.png these are to the immediate left of the address/url window? After all, that's why I added it to the Safari pane tool bar.

    Another question:

Would it not be better to place the cog icon and the get mail icon up above the mail view pane next to the other 5 icons thus?:

    Screen Shot 2015-01-16 at 15.33.14.png

That, to me, would be a much easier (and more logical) way to find them instead of tucking them down in the bottom left corner below the side bar.

Indeed, they are essentially, tools to aid us in all the basic functions related to receiving, replying, moving etc.

Their way of doing things seems to me like driving around Alaska to get to Sacramento.

I've sent at least one erm...suggestion. Not sure it'll carry any weight. I'd love to be a fly on the wall at one the developers meetings.

I'd certainly ruffle a feather or 2 if I could actually be there in the flesh.
