I have been unable to close WORD documents (Microsoft office for Macs 2010) and cannot force quit Word or shut down laptop because Word will not close.
MacBook Air (11-inch Mid 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)
I'm having a very similar problem. One some documents, the little red Close button is grayed out, as is the File > close (and Save) menu items. Force Quitting Word and restarting brings up recovered documents, some of which have a black dot in the red button; If I click on the button to close, the button grays out and doc does not close.
This has happened with multiple documents this morning, and once or twice in the recent past.
MBP 15" Retina late 2013, Office Mac 2011 14.4.7, Yosemite 10.10.1
