E mail freezing on I pad 2

ffrom e mail app on I pad e mail starts, blank screen then shuts off.....I have Un then reinstalled mail accounts, done a hard shut off, checked IOS my operating systems are up to date, any ideas or folks with similar issue. I went online and main suggestion was to shut mail off pushing home button until icon wiggles then hitting - or X.......this cannot be done is an app that comes from Apple on I pad. When I punch the home screen button twice then get rid of history the mail page appears " ghosted" or black and can be swiped away. Any thoughts.
