Hi Tomek.O,

Welcome to the Support Communities! Since your iPhone 4s and your MacBook Pro are updated with the latest software (iOS 8 and Yosemite), I would suggest you start your troubleshooting with these two devices. Here are the steps to get FaceTime up and running:

iOS and OS X: Link your phone number and Apple ID for use with FaceTime and iMessage - Apple Support
http://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201349

iOS and OS X: Link your phone number and Apple ID for use with FaceTime and iMessage

Learn how to link your iPhone telephone number to your Apple ID for use with FaceTime and iMessage.

Your iPhone telephone number is linked to your Apple ID when you sign in to FaceTime or iMessage. This allows you to use your iPhone number with FaceTime and iMessage on other iOS devices.

  • This feature isn't available on iPod touch (3rd generation) and iPad (1st generation).
  • This feature is available with OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.2 or later.

You can sign in to your Apple ID on an iPhone by tapping Settings > FaceTime and Settings > Messages > Send & Receive.

On iOS devices, find out which addresses are enabled with FaceTime and iMessage by tapping:

  • Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > You can be reached by iMessage at:
  • Settings > FaceTime > You can be reached by FaceTime at:

On OS X, find out which addresses are enabled:

  • In Messages, choose Messages > Preferences > Accounts.
Select iMessage in the left column. Your contact preferences should appear under "You can be reached for messages at:."
  • In FaceTime, choose FaceTime > Preferences.
Your contact preferences should appear under "You can be reached for calls at:."

Use iMessage and FaceTime with multiple devices

Learn how to set up iMessage on multiple devices. The same steps apply when you set up FaceTime.

  1. Sign in to an Apple ID on your iPhone. You will see all addresses verified with the account.
  2. Tap an address to enable it on the device. The telephone number will be dimmed when you view these settings on an iPhone.
  3. If you don't want to use iMessage with your iPhone telephone number, tap Settings > Messages and turn iMessage off.

  4. You can sign in to the same Apple ID on another device. These images show the iMessage settings on an iPad and OS X using the same Apple ID.

    iPad:

    OS X:

After signing in to the Apple ID on another device, the iPhone will receive a notification. The notifications below explain that you used the Apple ID and phone number with iMessage on a MacBook Pro. You will receive a notification for every address or phone number you enable on each additional device.

Unlink a phone number

To remove a phone number from an Apple ID, sign out of FaceTime and Messages on your iPhone:

  • Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
  • Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.

This should remove your phone number from other devices using the same Apple ID with FaceTime and Messages. If the phone number is still available on other devices after you sign out of FaceTime and iMessage on the iPhone, you may need to sign out of iMessage and FaceTime on all your devices, then sign in to FaceTime and Messages again on devices you want to use.

Note: If you no longer have access to the iPhone that is using the number you want to remove, reset your Apple ID password.

    • Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
    • Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
  2. Sign out of your Apple ID on your Mac at the following locations:

iOS: Troubleshooting FaceTime

This article outlines the basic troubleshooting steps to resolve FaceTime usage issues.

If you encounter issues making or receiving FaceTime calls, follow these steps:

  1. Update both devices (your device and your friend's device) to the latest version of iOS.
If you started to have issues making or receiving FaceTime calls after April 16, 2014, you or your friend may have an expired device certificate. Updating both devices will resolve this issue.
  2. Verify that FaceTime is enabled in Settings > FaceTime.
    • If the issue persists or if you see the message "Waiting for Activation," turn FaceTime off and then on again. Learn what to do if you can't activate FaceTime.
    • If you don't see the FaceTime setting, make sure that Camera and FaceTime aren't disabled in Settings > General > Restrictions.
  3. Verify that the date and time are set correctly: Tap Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically.
  4. Verify that both parties have an active Internet connection and are connected to a Wi-Fi network or a cellular data connection.
  5. Verify push functionality using Mail or other applications that use this feature. FaceTime uses push notifications to send and receive invitations.
  6. Make sure that you have the correct phone number or email address.
  7. Restart your device.
  8. If using FaceTime over a Wi-Fi network, go to the steps to resolve Wi-Fi network issues.

Find a missing FaceTime app

If you can't use FaceTime or find the FaceTime app, follow these steps. FaceTime might not be available, or might become unavailable, on devices purchased or used in certain countries, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Check your device's region of purchase for more information.

  1. In Settings > General > Restrictions, make sure FaceTime and Camera are on. Disabling Camera also disables FaceTime.
  2. Update to the latest version of iOS.
  3. Restore your device:
    1. Back up your device to iCloud or iTunes.
    2. Tap Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
This will erase all user data from your device.
    3. When complete, set up your device by selecting your region and language, then restore your data using the iCloud or iTunes backup.
When you set up and restore a backup from iTunes, make sure that your computer's language, country, date, and time are set correctly.
    4. If you still can't find the FaceTime app, see if you can go to Settings > FaceTime. If Settings > FaceTime is present, try using the Spotlight Search to find the FaceTime app.

If FaceTime > Preferences shows your email status as "verifying," follow the instructions in the verification email that was sent to complete the process.

  • Toggle FaceTime off and on in FaceTime > Preferences.
  • If still unable to Sign In follow the instructions in FaceTime, Game Center, Messages on OS X: Troubleshooting Sign in
