Q: Suddenly can't get new Yahoo! mail on my mac.

I can get gmail, and can get Yahoo! mail using other my other apple devices (through same internet service). Also able to log into webmail with no issues. Didn't change any settings since yesterday (the last time I was able to receive new Yahoo! mail on my mac). Seems like a problem specific to the mac itself, since it's not an issue with the internet, server, or account credentials.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

Yahoo has changed. Do what Yahoo requires and you will have email.

You must create a special password generated by Yahoo ONLY To use Apple Mail W Yahoo.

Your result, not mine or many other users. As noted previously my email came back on it's own, arbitrarily and after couple weeks. No special password needed.

Had this problem with only my Yahoo account on my iPad. I removed my yahoo email account and set it up again using the Yahoo option already in the apple mail settings. I ended up including my full email in the email field and my full email in the description field as well. This did the trick for me.

Thank you for your help.  I took your recommendation and generated a password through

    1. "Account Security" in Yahoo
    2. turned on "Two-step verification"
    3. created an app name for my macbook
    4. got the generated password
    5. then in Apple Mail,  "Add Account"
    6. Use the generated password to fill out the information

I deleted my original Yahoo email account from Apple Mail first.  it was risky because I though I lost all my "sent" emails only Apple Mail has a copy and not Yahoo mail.

But it all worked out!  Thank you.

    I did this...twice...and I still can't receive Yahoo email.

    I can send it.

Works perfectly on iPhone and iPad...just not desktop.

It used to "break" where I could receive and not send.

But it has been 1 month where I can't receive it.

I have used the Yahoo email for 20 years.

So sad this will no longer work with Apple Mail.

    Ugh....

I Don't know if you did this, but you cannot allow Apple Mail to automatically fill in your STMP and IMAP settings. Apple Mail does not fill in correctly. Apple Mail is broken in this aspect. Look up your settings and insert them manually.

But you may have already done this.

Hope you are using the Yahoo generated password for Apple Mail.

When I re-added the Yahoo account, the only option Apple Mail gave me was to list the yahoo email, and the password.

    I tried this 2 times.

I put in the Yahoo created password, and the Apple Mail program:

    1) Did the same thing (I could not see the Yahoo mail in the inbox) or

    2) It said I needed to quit mail because it was being used by another program.  I quit mail on the desktop, iPad, iPhone,

and when I restarted mail, it still had no Yahoo email in the inbox.

Thanks for trying to help, though.

    Hey Everyone!

This right now we know as a yahoo service issue coming from the fetch servers on their end. This is also something that apple seems to be trying to work on also but a work around and a way to fix this is to pull all your inbox into a subfolder created on yahoo.com transfer all emails from inbox into that folder send yourself a new email and then pull all back into inbox folder again. Also if you check downright now.com you can see yahoo status is down which usually especially lately after December of 2014 is almost always down it crashes a lot almost everyday of all week. The reason why they work on your iPad and iPhone is because they use the push server which apparently yahoo is having no issues with. It is only the fetch server which mac mail and outlook clients use.

    Regards,

    Todd

I Tried deleting my yahoo account on my iPad.  I even powered off and on.  Added my yahoo email account again.  Still no yahoo email on my iPad.  Yahoo mail works great on my iPhone.  Works fine on my mini iPad.  Go figure!  Is it Apple or yahoo?  Any additional ideas to fix my issue?

So it seems that for the majority of us our Yahoo mail will work on one device but not the other.  Mine works on my iPad Air 2 but not my iPhone 6 Plus.  I've tried other suggestions to resolve the issues but they are only short term fixes in my opinion.  Hopefully this can get resolved so I can receive my e-mails on all my devices and they are synched and I don't have to worry about an email on one device saying its been read and on another saying it hasn't.  Very frustrating!

Folk's you cannot simply delete the Yahoo account and add it back in Apple Mail.

You must fill in the STMP and IMAP info manually.

Apple Mail is broken. It will not configure automatically.

Secondly, if you use Yahoo w Apple Mail, Yahoo REQUIRES a Yahoo generated password.

I could log in on some of my Apple devices but not a new Macbook Pro. Frustrating I talked to Apple support and I had a setting in Yahoo that was keeping me from logging in on my new device. I disabled "two step verification." Here's the Yahoo link: https://help.yahoo.com/kb/SLN6050.html  Works great now.

Here we go again...UGH...someone needs to fix this issue.  This has been ongoing for months now.  I do not like going to the yahoo server to retrieve my mail.  I paid for a Mac and want to use iMail to access emails...very frustrating!
