I want to see the file OS X Yosemite that APP STORE downloads. Where in FINDER can I find the file? During download I see it downloading into LAUNCHPAD. I don't want to go there, I want to find the file in Finder. I can't find it with SEARCH
It's in the Applications folder.
Tks Kappy, I was trying to look for it there during download, as saw old Mountain Lion there, but not the Yosemite. After it finished downloading it showed up. THANKS!
The Launchpad isn't a "there." It's just a piece of eye candy that shows all the apps installed on your system. They are not actually "there."
The in-progress download is in a temp folder. It is moved into Applications when it completes downloading and is validated.
The "in progress download is a temp folder" - does this mean after it's "moved into applications" there might still be a temp file elsewhere? Or some temp folder with a copy of the file in it?

No, it doesn't mean that.
All DLs from the App Store or staged in the hidden folder "/private/var/folders/". Use the "Go to folder" finder menu option to get there.
Once inside the folder, search the folders inside for "com.apple.appstore". You may have to check a couple sub-folders to find it as your system generates the path.
Once there, you will find folders for all the current downloading files. Check the "flyingIcon" file in each folder for a picture of the file in that folder.
When the download has completed, the folder for the file will be deleted.
DO NOT mess with any of these files as you may corrupt the DL, but if you are REALY lucky, you may be able to make a copy of the completed DL for backup before it is delete.
