iTunes update

I installed iTunes on my desktop pc about 5 years ago...stored lots of good music for my ipods.

The past 3+ years, I occassionally receive popup on pc "Install iTunes update". Each time I tried

but it did not work...so I just let it go.

I have been thru the 4S and lived with this problem ok..

Now I have iPhone 6....and iCloud. I want to have my iTunes up to date and funtioning.

Q. 1. How do I update on my PC and sync with new phone?

2, If I do this, will I lose the music I have saved in my iTunes on my PC?

I am not an old geek.....just Old...so any help is appreciated.

Hey patfromcleburne,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! Let’s see if I can answer some of your questions for you:

1. How do I update on my PC and sync with new phone?

To update to the latest version of iTunes, follow these steps:

Update to the latest version of iTunes - Apple Support

http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201352

If you have issues updating, see this resource:

Issues installing iTunes for Windows - Apple Support

http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201668

2. If I do this, will I lose the music I have saved in my iTunes on my PC?

Media you've bought from the iTunes Store or songs you've imported from CDs are saved in your My Music folder by default. They won't be deleted by removing or updating iTunes. Although it's highly unlikely that you'll lose any of your iTunes Library when following the steps above, you can always back up your iTunes library to be safe. See iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive for more information.

Thanks,

Matt M.
